The fuel burning types are not recommend because the chance of fires are much greater. Usually these are kerosene based heaters. If an object touched them it could burn as well as cause a fire by the fuel heater tipping over. The dangers with electric is primarily in the wiring. One should not use an ordinary extension cord with these heaters.
